Fondo Life

What better way to celebrate the end of racing with a non-race race ( also known as a Gran Fondo )??

Besides getting together to have fun on bikes, do some squad bonding and get in some late season training, the squad was also celebrating teammate Lori’s upcoming wedding with a little biking bridal shower!

We had a great time. Got a bit silly with TEAM BRIDE sashes and even popped some champagne. Of course, when it comes to bikes, it’s hard to just have fun… we are racers after all!!! When it came to ‘ride’ day, we were ready to hit it hard. The plan was to ride there and back, which would result in a 120+ mile day. After fueling up on oatmeal, maple syrup, coffee and our Swisse Wellness supplements, the squad layered up and started pedaling up dark Green River Cove switch backs to reach the start at Hotel Domestique. Part of a Fondo is FUN; mass starts, lots of food stations, music, cameras, riders off all levels… Part of a Fondo is a race; prizes, competition, fame. We got both out of this ride. There was fun riding bikes with each other, time spent talking to other riders and camera crews, pushing our bodies to the limit of fall fitness, and even taking the podium. That’s right, our new roster addition Leah Thorvilson (more on 2020 roster soon!!) put her recent Spanish training trip to use by completely crushing the difficult Skyuka and Green River Cove climbs for an impressive 3rd place finish. Lori and Stef came in 4th & 5th with Jennah & Rachel embracing true Fondo Fun to engage socially with other riders. What made the day more impressive and grueling was the cold temps and rain that soaked everyone for roughly half the race. We bailed out on riding home, but that just gave us an excuse to enjoy the after party more!!

In 2020 we’ll be looking to take on another Fondo (or a few) !!
